About Palms on Oxford

Palms is a basement gay club on Oxford Street known for unpretentious nights of pop and retro dance music from resident DJs. It is a no-frills, party-focused room with a mostly LGBTQIA+ crowd. On Mardi Gras night it screens the parade inside, and in 2026 ran an 8pm to 5am party with retro DJs and pole performances.

The site has a long queer history. The basement was declared a public hall in 1964, opened as a gay cabaret around 1977, traded as Scooters Bar and Diner in the late 1980s and reopened as Palms in 2000. The City of Sydney has backed heritage listing for the building.
