About The Oxford Hotel
The Oxford Hotel on Taylor Square opened as a gay pub in July 1982 and is one of Sydney's oldest continually operating queer venues, though pubs have stood on the site since 1859 and the Oxford name dates from 1905. Run by Universal Hotels, it spreads over four levels: the ground-floor Oxford Bar with bistro and terrace, Ginger's cabaret room on level one, the Polo Lounge up top and the Oxford Underground club in the basement.
Drag is the backbone of the program, with bingo, trivia and DJ nights midweek and several drag shows on Friday and Saturday nights. The City of Sydney has backed heritage listing for the building.
