About Varnish on King
Varnish on King opened in 2013 in the basement of a 1921 heritage building on King Street, set up by Andy Freeman, then of Luxe Bar. It is now run by the Sneakers and Jeans group and calls itself Perth's original American whiskey den.
The focus is bourbon, rye, Tennessee and Canadian whiskey, with American-style food and a changing wine list. The room has a low-lit, dive-bar feel, with a lounge called The Reserve at the King Street entrance. It stays open to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.
