About South Australian Hotel
The South Australian Hotel, known locally as the South Aussie, is a two-storey hotel built in 1860 in central Mount Gambier. It reopened in early 2024 after a 12-month renovation that kept the heritage facade, repaired the etched windows and reused salvaged materials in bar tops and furniture.
The redevelopment won Redeveloped Hotel, General Division Country at the 2024 AHA|SA awards. It now offers table service, local wines, beers and cocktails and an a la carte menu. Online reviews in 2026 show it still trading.
