Late cocktail bar

Volstead Repeal

Shop 7, 32 Mort Street, Braddon. A post-Prohibition-themed bar with more than 400 whiskies.

About Volstead Repeal

Volstead Repeal is a hidden cocktail and whisky bar at the end of a shopfront corridor off Mort Street in Braddon. There is no street signage; you look for a glass door past the shops. Inside it is styled as a post-Prohibition New York bar, with whisky-lined walls, green leather chesterfield seating, a long reclaimed-timber bar and mahogany bookshelves, and about 50 seats.

The focus is cocktails on a seasonal menu, a wall of whisky (a 2022 review cites more than 300 bottles), local and imported wine and beer, and guided whisky tasting flights. A small kitchen with a pizza oven provides pizzas and charcuterie. A 2022 review notes jazz as the soundtrack, and bookings are recommended.

It was founded in February 2022 by Stu Inger with Sydney businessman Allen Chen. The venue's site lists three consecutive wins in the whisky bar category of the Australian Bartender Awards and two ACT Cocktail Bar of the Year titles.
